3rd Street Bridge Art Celebration

September 17 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Celebrate a community art installation at the 3rd Street Bridge with artist Veronica Valadez and Downtown Oxnard. There will be a traditional Aztec Blessing of the mural, followed by a dance presentation by Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc. Special surprise for attendees.

A Conversation on Racism

September 19 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Join us for an informal conversation on Racism facilitated by Chiany Dri, as we aim to create a safe space where we can discuss a controversial topic and grow to have more understanding about how we can help others do better and do better ourselves. During this workshop we will spend time talking about what privilege really means, the different kinds of experienced racism, role models in anti-racist movements, and how we can be awesome allies to people of color everywhere.

Zoot Suiters

September 19 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Presented by: Nicholas Centino, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Chicano Studies at CSU Channel Islands Nearing 75 years since the Zoot Suit Riots where US servicemen and civilians attacked Chicana/o and Latina/o youth in Los Angeles, a revived interest in the pachucas/os of the WWII homefront continues to enthrall and fascinate. This talk will look at the current revival of Zoot Suit era style, music, dance, and culture across the southwest & beyond and place it context with our current political atmosphere.

Prepare w/CFROG for Ventura County Planning Department meeting

September 21 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Is clean air and water important in Santa Rosa Valley & Camarillo? Do you support environmental justice throughout Ventura County? The Ventura County Planning Department needs to hear that clean air, clean water and Environmental Justice must be included in the Vision & Guiding Principles for the General Plan Update. Public Meeting details: the Ventura County Planning Department is going to host a public workshop to receive input from the local community.

Diversity Gala 2017

Diversity Gala 2017 is honored to be hosted once again at the lovely Heritage Square in Oxnard. The dream to reopen a community resource center here in Ventura County after not having one since 2008 is no longer a dream but a reality. The Community Resource Center will have a soft opening in June with a grand opening in August.

Art Show at Casa Agria | Benefitting Project Understanding

“Free First Sundays” at the Museum(s)

October 1 @ 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

The first Sunday of every month offers free admission at both the Museum of Ventura County (in Ventura) and the Agriculture Museum (in Santa Paula). In addition to gallery exhibitions, look for additional activities for the entire family. Activities may include arts and crafts or live performances that relate to our current exhibits. Free Sunday activities are recommended for children 6 years and older. First Friday

First Friday’s goal is to promote the appreciation and sales of art in a relaxed, supportive and fun environment. Each month, visual fine art spaces in downtown and midtown Ventura offer a variety of special entertainment to compliment the collectible artworks on display. Demonstrations, lectures, music, and performance provide an opportunity for everyone to share in this unique Ventura cultural experience. Join Ventura’s vibrant arts community for a gallery crawl through town every first Friday of the month.

Volunteer Chief Program

ArtWalk Ventura 2017

October 7 @ 11:00 am – 7:00 pm

Entering its 25th year, ArtWalk Ventura is a totally fun, virtually free, self-guided tour of dozens of galleries, studios, pop-up venues and transformed PODS Containers in Ventura’s historic Downtown and Westside Cultural District. We are also pleased to welcome back featured events from Ventura College, including visual arts and two days of live music.

Mission of the Solidarity Ventura County Calendar

Solidarity Ventura County Calendar publicizes critical information on actions, events, and group meetings.  It is a progressive grassroots tool to complement local direct action. Our organization will facilitate communication and connection between activists, interested community members, and local organizations; and will become an informed and mobilized county-wide base, ready to stand by our community.
