Compassionate Listening Support Circle

March 1 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

We invite you to join Lisa and Brian Berman for a FREE weekly support group to build, maintain, and restore inner peace after these hugely disruptive natural events. In a trusting circle, you will experience the heart-opening power of compassionate listening. Our circle will benefit both speakers and listeners, bridging heart to heart and peace within. Lisa and Brian Berman have facilitated peace and reconciliation programs here and around the world.

Thrive LGBTQ Community Meeting

Democratic Socialists of America Chapter Meeting

March 1 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Join the real resistance and help us create a new vision! Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are a political and activist organization, not a party; through campus and community-based chapters DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people.

AIDS Walk Ventura/Free Health Fair

AIDS WALK VENTURA is a fun, healthy way for individuals or friends, families, and teams of co-workers to raise awareness and help to do their part in the fight against HIV & AIDS in Ventura County. Together, we can reduce and eventually stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in Ventura County. We can’t do it without your help. The goal of AIDS Walk Ventura is to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and to fund Diversity Collective’s HIV-AIDS Education and Prevention Program.

Work/Play Day at Community Roots Garden

March 3 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

“Community Roots Garden is a one-acre garden at the North Oxnard United Methodist Church. We are dedicated to growing a community of gardens that build food security and empower our community. Our garden volunteers share land, labor, and harvest with one another and those in need. We offer hands-on gardening experience, workshops, resources, tours, and service opportunities to volunteers, community groups, youth, and those starting gardens in their own neighborhood

Kellogg Park Community Garden Build Day

March 3 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Bee Cause Public Art Workshop

The City of Ventura’s Public Art Program, working with artist MB Hanrahan, is excited to provide the community an opportunity to participate in an upcoming permanent public art installation, Bee Cause at the Barranca Vista Center. Through a series of workshops, the community will assist in transforming hubcaps into beautiful flowers for this Bee Cause garden which will create awareness around the plight of the North American Bumble Bee. Open Farm 1st Saturdays

Come explore our organic farm… Learn about our operations and community involvement… Get your hands in the dirt and connect with the land in new and exciting ways… The Abundant Table’s Open Farm 1st Saturdays are a way for the wider community to connect deeply with the farm and its mission. Come learn and explore. Volunteer your time and labor. Learn more about our ecological justice, environmental stewardship and farm education programs for youth and their families.

Free Movie The Age of Consequences

The Hurt Locker’ meets ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ in the film THE AGE OF CONSEQUENCES. Admission free The film investigates the impacts of climate change on increased resource scarcity, migration, and conflict through the lens of US national security and global stability.

Gender Zone Meeting

VC Legal Clinic

March 6 @ 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Ventura County Legal Aid, Inc. is here to help on the first and third Tuesdays of the month 4 to 7 the Ventura County Law Library. Last walk-ins accepted at 6:15. Attorneys are available during these times on a first-come, first-served basis, to provide free legal advice to those who qualify based on income.

Rainbow Study Zone

Surfrider Foundation Monthly Meeting

Showing Up for Racial Justice-Ventura County (SURJ-VC)

March 6 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Organizing white people to show up for racial justice through community organizing, mobilizing and education. Meets monthly on the first and third Tuesday.  For locations and meeting information, follow SURJ-VC on Facebook.  Newcomer Orientation begins at 6:30pm. Occasionally meetings will change locations so SURJ members can support political actions.

Join our Walk bringing awareness to Ventura County about Human Trafficking and Sexual Slavery. Then listen to a survivor’s story, the latest from local law enforcement efforts, how emergency rooms are changing to fit the need and how a local agency is responding to assist victims.

Black American Political Association of California (BAPAC) Monthly Meeting

The most valuable artists in this regard are those that help us move beyond the worry and fret we may feel but not acknowledge about the ecological disaster we continue to cause and offer clues about unique ways to solve it.

Benefit Concert for Unitarian Church Vandalized Window

Someone threw a rock through the historic Founders Window of the Universalist Unitarian Church of Santa Paula sometime during the evening of Monday, January 30th. Former Santa Paula Concert Series performers Chucumite has stepped forward to offer a benefit for the repair of the window. The concert will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, March 11 in the Sanctuary of the church located at 740 E Main Street, Santa Paula. Although the church has insurance, the deductible is $1000. Donations are a minimum of $10, $5 for children 12 and under

No Más Bebés

No Más Bebés tells the story of a little-known but landmark event in reproductive justice, when a small group of Mexican immigrant women sued county doctors, the state, and the U.S. government after they were sterilized while giving birth at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Enough! Stop School Shootings!

We have been issued a challenge. By our schoolchildren. David Hogg, a student who survived the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, issued a call to action that we cannot fail to answer. “We’re children, you are the adults,” he stated while urging us all to tell lawmakers to take action to prevent more school shootings.

Walkability, Housing & PlaceMaking in Oxnard and Ventura County

March 21 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

We explore what it takes to make great downtowns and how to apply the principles we learn to downtown Oxnard, Ventura and other VC cities. Walkability, housing and placemaking issues are central to the discussion and we will explore case studies and contemporary literature to learn what works and how we can apply what we learn to our local towns and communities.

A Special SWAN Forum Muslim Activists Advocating for Reform and Gender Equality

We’ll return to our regularly scheduled programming in April (when we return to Tuesday evening & Mass Incarceration), but this month we’ll be talking with a panel of longtime Muslim activists advocating for reform and gender equality. You won’t want to miss these women from LA, Orange County & Toronto, as they share the work they’re doing. Suburban Women’s Advocacy Network (SWAN) – Our mission is to inspire, support and mobilize suburban women towards activism and advocacy for the rights of marginalized communities and the issues related to them.

Mission of the Ventura Peace and Justice Network Calendar

The Solidarity Ventura County Calendar publicizes critical information on actions, events, and group meetings.  It is a progressive grassroots tool to complement local direct action. Our organization will facilitate communication and connection between activists, interested community members, and local organizations; and will become an informed and mobilized county-wide base, ready to stand by our community.
